Ice coffee - what is it?

Ice coffee, iced coffee, is familiar to most coffee lovers. It is prepared in many countries according to various recipes, and this gives enormous scope for creativity. Often, “ice coffee” generally means all types of cold coffee to which ice is added, for example, ice cappuccino, ice latte, ice mocha, but there is also a completely classic recipe that can be changed a little, enjoying different shades of the taste of your favorite drink.

To make iced coffee you will need:

  • Coffee, preferably ground beans, although instant coffee is also possible. If you brew in a Turkish coffee pot, you need to strain the coffee thoroughly so that the grounds do not get into the glass.
  • Purified water.
  • Milk.
  • Ice in cubes.

What can you add to iced coffee?

Well-prepared iced coffee is a delicious drink in itself, combining the softness of milk and a slightly bitter or sour tint of coffee (depending on the variety and type of mixture), but those who like experimenting can try adding other ingredients to their taste.

  • Cinnamon (you can brew coffee with a cinnamon stick or sprinkle it on a ready-made cocktail);
  • Whipped cream for topping;
  • Cream, which replaces part of the milk, 2-3 teaspoons;
  • Syrups;
  • Condensed milk;
  • Ice cream;
  • Liqueur (all cream variations, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, etc. are suitable).

Iced coffee

We recommend the article “What is frappe and iced coffee”, where we published several recipes

Coffee lovers cannot imagine a day without this wonderful drink, which can not only warm you up, but also refresh you. After all, you must admit that if it’s hot outside, you want to drink something cool and tonic. Iced coffee is the perfect solution. You drink your favorite drink, and at the same time it perfectly quenches your thirst.

There are several ways to prepare iced coffee. In the first case, the finished hot drink is cooled to the desired temperature, in the second, coffee is prepared by keeping ground beans in water (for example, using a French press), and then filtered.

Often iced coffee is prepared similarly to a hot analogue of a particular coffee drink. So, there are “iced latte” and “iced mocha”. These drinks are made by mixing hot espresso with the required amount of chilled milk.

  • Ice coffee can be served either already chilled or still hot, but with the right amount of ice.
  • Since sugar does not dissolve well in cold liquid, sugar syrup or sweeteners are usually added to iced coffee.

One of the options for cold coffee is Frappe.

The drink got its name for a reason: “frappe” from French means chilled. Since the main component of coffee frappe is ice, the choice of such a “name” is quite justified. In addition to the main components, various “flavor enhancers” are added to the drink. The most popular of them are liqueur, rum, cognac, ice cream, and chocolate.

Required ingredients:

  • Double espresso
  • 15 gr. Sahara
  • Ice to taste
  • Cream to taste
  • Syrup to taste

How to make frappe?

To prepare Frappe, we need a standard portion of espresso or instant coffee granules. Cream or milk, sugar and cubed ice. You can also add fruit syrup to the drink if you want to get new flavors.

The first step is to brew a standard shot of espresso and let it cool. If you are using instant coffee, you can immediately proceed to the next stage of preparing the drink. Pour chilled espresso into a tightly sealed glass or shaker.

In the case of instant coffee, add 2 teaspoons of coffee granules.

Add 2-3 teaspoons of sugar and about 4-5 tablespoons of water. Close our container tightly and begin to shake it.

We recommend wrapping the shaker or glass in a towel to protect yourself and the area around you in case the container leaks.

As a result of active actions, we will get a satisfyingly thick foam with a pleasant coffee aroma. It's time to move on to the final stage of making frappe at home.

Fill the glass to the top with ice cubes. If you don't want to make ice frappe, you can get by with 2-3 ice cubes, or completely eliminate ice from the drink. Pour our foamy substance into a glass with ice.

Add cold cream or milk to taste, thereby changing the strength of the drink.

Stir the Frappe with a straw and enjoy a light and very invigorating drink, which can also quench your thirst during the hot season and give yourself new strength!

Classic ice coffee recipe

To prepare one serving, brew double espresso, 60 ml. If you like your coffee sweet, add sugar to your hot coffee, as it will dissolve less easily in an icy environment.

One teaspoon “without a slide” contains 3-4 grams of coffee, “with a slide” – about 6 grams. For a double espresso you need 14 grams of coffee, which means we take about 2.5 heaped teaspoons of ground coffee. Or 2 tablespoons of coffee beans if you grind it.

Add 200 ml chilled milk to the espresso. Place ice cubes in a glass and pour coffee with milk.

Vietnamese iced coffee with tapioca

This is a fairly new drink for domestic coffee lovers, and it can surprise guests with it. It is prepared in several coffee shops in the capital, and those who want to prepare Vietnamese iced coffee at home will need to order the ingredients online. Buy sago (tapioca balls, Asian starch), brown cane sugar and condensed milk.

For one serving you need 25 grams of large sago balls, 10 grams of coffee, 150 ml of water, 50 ml of milk or cream, 1 teaspoon of cane sugar and a tablespoon of condensed milk.
