History and composition

Greek coffee Frappe is considered one of the first soft coffee drinks. In 1957, an employee of the Swiss company Nestle mixed coffee powder, milk powder and cold water in a shaker. The resulting drink was appreciated and became the hallmark of Greece.

Greek Frappe has several methods of preparation, differing primarily in composition:

  • To enhance the taste, add cherries to coffee;
  • in other variations, milk is replaced with ice cream, which gives the coffee a pleasant creamy taste;
  • add chocolate, nuts, cream, cinnamon, various syrups and liqueurs.

Why choose iced coffee?

Unlike other soft drinks, iced coffee not only cools you down, but also gives you strength. The drink has a good effect on the body, replenishing energy reserves. Carbonated water and cola, on the contrary, have a bad effect on digestion and contribute to weight gain.

Iced coffee comes in many varieties and flavors. Some recipes make the drink into a dessert filled with healthy ingredients, such as fruit. Many people take it as an original cocktail.

There are many differences with regular coffee. First of all, the recipe and cooking temperature are different. The caloric content is almost identical, but additives quickly increase it. The drink can be quite strong, like espresso. Cold coffee is not bitter and drinks smoothly. But it is also aromatic and rich.

Idea of the last century

Iced coffee seems like an unusual and new creation. But experiments with the chilled drink were carried out in the middle of the last century. The first recipe was produced in 1964. It was invented by the chemist Simpson. He brought his idea to life - a cold brew glass. Then there was a fashion for iced coffee without sugar, milk and other fillers. But only in the second wave of popularity were many variants of the drink invented.

Vietnamese coffee brewed in a filter press

  • ground coffee – 12-16 g (as much as will fit into the filter press);
  • water – 0.2 l.

Cooking method:

  1. Fill the filter press with coffee, pressing it down lightly.
  2. Place the filter press over the checker or mug. In this case, the cup itself can be placed in a bowl of hot water so that the finished drink is not too cold, since the filtration process is quite long.
  3. Boil water, pour a little into the filter press, wait half a minute, turn the press clockwise to compact the coffee better.
  4. Fill the filter press with boiling water, cover with a lid and wait until all the liquid passes through the coffee and ends up in the glass.

You will have to drink this coffee without sugar, since the temperature of the drink will not allow it to dissolve.

Cinnamon Recipe

The classic recipe can be supplemented with cinnamon to add an oriental aroma and tartness to the drink.

You will need:

  • 150 ml brewed coffee;
  • 3-4 ice cubes;
  • cinnamon stick;
  • 35 g whipped cream.

Cooking steps:

  1. Place a cinnamon stick in hot, freshly brewed espresso and leave the liquid to cool.
  2. Remove the cinnamon from the coffee and strain it.
  3. Place the drink in the refrigerator for half an hour.
  4. Place ice cubes in the bottom of tall glasses, fill them and garnish with cream.

French press is the name of a device for making coffee, as well as the method of making coffee by infusing and squeezing. It is believed that the French press allows you to reveal the real taste and aroma of exquisite varieties of coffee. A flat bottom with three holes in this funnel promotes more uniform extraction. Due to the holes, the water lingers a little in the funnel and additionally brews the coffee, which contributes to the richness of the taste.

AeroPress received the name “home espresso” for its operating principle, which is similar to preparing espresso in a coffee machine. A drink prepared in an AeroPress turns out a little cloudy, but the taste is rich and dense.
