Connoisseurs drink coffee drinks all the time. It doesn’t stop them if they don’t have special utensils to prepare their favorite delicacy. They know how to brew coffee without Turkish coffee using improvised methods. Coffee lovers follow simple rules and use utensils that are found in every kitchen. The result is aromatic coffee with a rich flavor that is not inferior to a traditional Turkish drink.
Important Tips and Principles
In a good cezve, coffee is brewed correctly. If you use any other containers and techniques, you should consider the following factors and can use tips on how to brew coffee without a Turk:
- The water you use should not boil. Do not pour boiling water over coffee. If you boil it, let it cool for at least 20-30 seconds, so the temperature will be optimal.
- Due to the narrow neck, the aromas are concentrated inside and foam appears. If the container is open, they will evaporate. Therefore, you can use lids and spices to enhance the flavor.
- For a brighter taste, you should put about 1.5 times more ground coffee than you put in the cezve, and let the drink sit a little longer.
- Try to choose a container that is as wide as possible, especially if you are cooking for one.
- Rinse the cup with boiling water before pouring the drink, this will also help preserve and develop the taste and aroma a little better.
The only thing you really need besides ground beans is hot water or a way to heat it. Well, and the containers, which we will talk about later.
Little coffee tricks
Any of these secrets will help you prepare an amazing treat with an original taste and beneficial properties.
- Cold or hot water. You can pour cold water over the ground grains, which will take a little longer to brew, but the taste will be richer. If you pour the powder with hot water, the taste of the drink will be mild.
- Cafein free. Prefer to brew your treats decaffeinated? Try making it by adding a few cardamom seeds. Your family and friends will surely appreciate the unusual spicy taste.
- Roasted note. You can brew coffee by first roasting the powder in a container for 30 seconds.
- Velvet notes. To do this, just add a small amount of butter to the dish during cooking.
- Spicy treat. Want to cook up a real spice explosion? Try brewing coffee with different spice combinations. These could be: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg. The technology is quite simple: you need to mix ground grains with spices and warm them up a little; as soon as the aroma becomes intense, you can pour in water.
- Just caramel. The secret of this recipe is cane sugar, of course, the product is quite rare, but if you are a real gourmet, this will not stop you. Before adding water to the container, add half a teaspoon of sugar and heat it. The caramel crust will give the drink an amazing flavor. You can try making coffee using this recipe, but with regular sugar.
- Heat three times. The aroma and taste of the drink manifests itself in full force when boiling. Following this rule, you need to wait until the liquid begins to rise, remove from heat, put the foam in a cup, mix the contents in the bowl and put it back on the stove. The procedure is repeated three times.
- The secret of no sediment. As a rule, housewives do not have a special filter to pour clean liquid without grounds. The solution is simple. After the drink boils, just add a teaspoon of cold water to it, wait 15-20 seconds and pour into cups.
You can brew delicious and aromatic coffee without a Turkish coffee, try it, and this treat will become a favorite for you, your family and friends.
Brew coffee in a saucepan on the stove
At home, this is usually the easiest option, especially if you are cooking for a large company. This often happens when moving or on trips, when you want to cheer up, but the Turks don’t. A drink similar to Americano is usually brewed in a saucepan - that is, it is not the strongest, there is a lot of it, and they drink it in large cups. You simply cannot brew espresso or even its analogue without a cezve, especially if the container is large.
The stove can be any kind; a gas, electric, gas burner or even a country electric stove will suit us, as long as it provides heat. There are also no special requirements for a saucepan or ladle (which is more convenient), but it is advisable not to use aluminum containers, since this metal gives the drink a certain metallic taste.
Technically, you can even brew Americano in a slow cooker or electric kettle and then pour it into cups. This is an option if there is no stove, but there is a device that connects to the outlet.
- Rinse the pan thoroughly without using detergents. We need to wash away the dust, but not add a soapy taste that is difficult to wash off.
- Add coffee at the rate of one and a half spoons per 250 ml of water. You can immediately add sugar, it will be tastier.
- Measure water into cups and pour in.
- Place over low heat and wait until the drink comes to a boil (the first “bubbles” will begin to appear). No need to boil!
- Set the pan aside for 30 seconds, then repeat the heating process two more times.
- Turn off the heat and let the drink extract for a couple of minutes, you can close the lid. You can splash in a spoonful of ice water to help the grounds settle faster.
If desired, heat the ground grains with sugar for 30 seconds over low heat, so you will get caramel-burnt notes. This also saves in situations where there is frankly not enough ground coffee - the drink will taste more bitter and, as it were, stronger.
Based on a classic recipe
To prepare delicious coffee in the utensils at hand, first familiarize yourself with the rules of the classic recipe when using a Turk (cezve).
Warm the Turk on the stove for a minute. Pour 2-3 tablespoons of ground grains into it, add sugar, salt and spices to taste. Pour in 150 milliliters of water and place on low heat. The drink is brewed until the foam rises.
Do not let the liquid boil. Otherwise, she will lose the taste and aroma that the grains gave her. This rule applies to any cooking method.
Remove the Turk from the stove. As soon as the foam settles, put it on the fire again until the foam rises again. And so 3-5 times.
If you don’t have special utensils, we will teach you how to brew ground bean coffee without a Turk or a coffee maker.
How to brew coffee in the microwave
This cooking method can be used at home or in the office. All you need is a cup (preferably transparent), water and, in fact, a connected microwave oven (or an oven with a microwave). This way you can prepare stronger drinks, and even something close to espresso.
- Pour a heaping spoonful of coffee into a cup.
- Add water so that it fills approximately 2/3 of the cup.
- Place in the microwave and turn on heat for 5 minutes. Power is not important.
- Stay close to the microwave and keep an eye on your drink. As soon as you see foam, stop heating. There may be a lot of foam, or maybe not much. Therefore, a transparent container is more convenient, but you can get by with an ordinary mug, in which case it should not be very large, otherwise the liquid will boil at the bottom, and you will not see it.
- After half a minute, turn the heat back on and bring until foamy.
- You can cover with a lid (saucer) and let it brew for 2-3 minutes.
Remember: do not place dishes with gold rims, paper cups, plastic cups, or thermal cups and containers in the microwave. But you can use a transparent half-liter jar, and in extreme cases, a deep ceramic bowl.
In the French press
A French press is a convenient device for obtaining an invigorating drink without grounds . Depending on the volume of the French press, you can brew one or several servings of treats at once.
How to cook:
- Boil water, let the boiling water cool for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour ground coffee into the flask at the rate of 2-3 tsp. without a slide for 200 ml of water.
- Pour the raw material with a small amount of water, mix thoroughly and pour in the remaining water.
- Close the container with the lid without lowering the piston.
- Let the drink brew for 4-5 minutes.
- Lower the plunger and pour the finished coffee into cups.
Reference! If you want a drink with a slight bitterness, the infusion time should be increased to 7-8 minutes.
To make coffee, you should choose a French press with a glass flask and metal parts . When plastic elements come into contact with hot water, they release toxic substances and give an unpleasant taste.
We brew coffee directly in a cup, without a Turk
A cup or coffee pot is most often used if there is no cezve. This, of course, is not exactly the same as brewing coffee outside of a Turk, but rather brewing it, but the method is so widespread that it is impossible to keep silent about it. The taste is as close as possible to a Turkish drink, since it is infused and drunk with grounds at the bottom, it turns out velvety and dense.
- Take a cup, pour in coffee based on your usual serving.
- Boil water, let it cool for 30 seconds.
- Pour water into the cup, trying to hold the container of water higher, pouring vertically so that foam appears.
- You can cover it with a lid (saucer), then the foam bubbles in the cup will be a little rainbow and beautiful.
- If there is nothing to cover, leave it like that for five or seven minutes, you can stir it so that the grounds settle better.
Using the same principle, you can prepare an Americano in a coffee pot or just a tall jug. Any ceramic or porcelain container will do. You can brew in glass, in a jar or jug, but then first pour in a little boiling water, rinse the walls to heat it up, put a spoon (fork, knife) inside so that they slightly reduce the heat, and pour in one spoon at a time, carefully so that the container does not crack.
Alternatively, you can boil water with spices and then pour it into a mug.
French press is one of the best ways to brew coffee if you don’t have a Turkish coffee pot.
In our country, the French press is traditionally used for brewing tea, but the French originally invented it specifically for making coffee. Essentially the same brewing as in a cup, but with the ability to easily strain off the grounds. The taste is close to filter coffee or Americano.
- Take a French press and rinse thoroughly to remove any remaining tea on the walls; this can even be done with an iron sponge, but do not use chemicals.
- Set the water to boil for about one and a half French press.
- Rinse the walls with boiling water to warm the container, it will not crack.
- Add coffee (one and a half spoons per cup). You can add spices right away.
- Pour in the water in a slow circular motion, watching as the coffee head forms and rises.
- Lift the piston up until it touches the top and cover the cylinder with the cap.
- After about five minutes, gently push the piston down to remove the grounds. Do not press hard, otherwise it will splash out if there is a lot of it.
For a French press, it is better to take medium or even coarse grinding grains; fine grinding - brew directly in a cup, because grains of grounds will still pass through the strainer.

We brew coffee in a thermos or thermal cup, almost like in a Turk, but without the Turk
This is a fairly quick brewing method, and the drink turns out to be very aromatic, since no vapors escape, the oils are concentrated and completely extracted into the drink. Due to this, you need to put in less coffee, and the process speeds up.
- You need to be careful with a thermos if you are going to pour directly from it - make sure that the hole is wide enough so that the grounds will not clog it. It is better to take a model with a wide neck.
- Any thermal cups will do, but it’s better to drink by opening the container and unscrewing the lid, since when sucking through the hole you will tip the cup, overflowing the grounds.
- Rinse the container with boiling water to remove foreign odors.
- Pour about a spoonful of coffee into a thermal cup, for a thermos - a spoonful of 250 ml.
- Fill with boiling water not to the brim.
- Let sit for a while with the lid open.
- Close the lid and open after 3 minutes or later.
It’s better to brew the drink in a thermal cup or thermos and drink it by pouring it into another container, but you can do it this way.
