What is the name of coffee with rum?

The drink made from coffee and rum does not have a single generally known name throughout the world. Different countries have their own characteristics of its preparation, and, therefore, their own names.

  • In Germany, there is a Pharisee cocktail - rum coffee with a top of whipped cream. By the way, in this country they definitely don’t stir it with a spoon.
  • In Austria the same thing is called "Fiacre".
  • In Jamaica and Cuba, the drink is called "Caribbean coffee", and it is usually added
  • also cinnamon, as well as almond liqueur, and sometimes grated almonds (not all coffee shops or bars have natural grated almonds).
  • In France you can find the name Café arrosé, but this name means “watered coffee”, that is, it means any alcohol, sometimes rum, but you need to clarify.
  • In Spain they love a drink called Carajillo - sweet espresso, which can be with rum or brandy.

There is a special name in Russia: in Dahl’s dictionary the name “Bear” is indicated for coffee with rum or vodka, but how many people or even bartenders and baristas know it? It’s easier to call the drink “coffee with rum,” so you’ll definitely get what you want.

"Pharisee"

This is a classic German method of preparing an invigorating drink. To cook it, you need to prepare:

  • ground robusta;
  • mineral water;
  • a little cream;
  • sugar.

Step by step recipe:

  1. Brew strong espresso using any method. Strain it.
  2. Prepare a tall glass glass and pour the drink into it. Don't forget to sweeten it.
  3. Then pour in the rum in a thin stream.
  4. Garnish with whipped cream. You can use a ready-made product or make it yourself. To do this, beat the full-fat milk with a blender.

Rum coffee recipes

Rum goes well with any coffee, no matter what you add to it. The main thing is to calculate the proportions correctly so that the cocktail does not turn out to be too alcoholic due to the large amount of alcohol, and this does not clog the coffee taste. The most popular home recipe is a couple of spoons of alcohol in your favorite espresso, but it’s worth trying to prepare drinks according to all the rules, the way bartenders in cafes and baristas in coffee shops do.

Basic recipe

  • 150 ml of freshly brewed natural coffee;
  • 50 ml rum;
  • Sugar to taste;

Brew the drink in any way you like and pour a portion of alcohol into it: the proportions are usually calculated as 1:3, that is, one part rum to three parts coffee. But all lovers of this drink have their own preferences, so try it and you will understand whether you need more alcohol. If this is too strong for you, you can dilute the drink with milk, it will make the taste less harsh and burning.

Coffee recipe with rum and milk

  • Coffee – 150 milliliters;
  • Milk or cream – 50 ml;
  • Rum – 50 ml.

It's very simple: prepare coffee with milk the way you like. You can cook spices in milk or add it to a cup, preferably warmed if your alcohol is cold, otherwise the temperature of the drink can drop greatly, to warm, but definitely not hot. If you don’t like sweets too much, you don’t have to add sugar, since the milk component will already give a sweetish taste and make the cocktail softer.

Coffee with rum and orange

  • Espresso, single or double;
  • 30–50 ml of rum, depending on the volume of coffee;
  • Orange slice.

This is a very invigorating, refreshing option. The citrus-rum-coffee taste is very unusual, instantly tones and brings you to your senses. Simply squeeze an orange slice into the rest of the ingredients. You can vary the proportions, make Americano, add sugar or spices - it will definitely turn out unusual and tasty!

Caribbean coffee recipe

  • Hot coffee, preferably Caribbean (the chicest is from Jamaica or the Blue Mountains) - about 250 ml;
  • Caribbean rum – 30 ml
  • Amaretto liqueur – 15 ml;
  • Whipped cream (preferred, but optional);
  • Grated or crushed almonds for topping the cream.

The Caribbean coffee and rum cocktail is quite light in alcohol, but you can vary the proportions of the ingredients. Try the classics and use Appleton rum from Jamaica, Bacardi from Cuba and Brugal from the Dominican Republic. Alternatively, replace the whipped cream with a scoop of ice cream, add cinnamon and other spices, coconut liqueur or shavings, and sometimes chocolate powder or other sprinkles.

Cocktail "Patriot"

  • 30 ml espresso or just strong coffee;
  • One and a half spoons of cane sugar;
  • 45 ml Bacardi Carta Blanca white rum;
  • 10 ml Fernet Branca Menta (Italian mint liqueur);
  • 10 ml chocolate cream liqueur;
  • Sprig of mint for decoration.

Patriota is a great combination of sweet Cuban coffee and white rum, complemented by notes of chocolate cream liqueur and balanced by the brightness of fresh mint liqueur. Please note that it is light rum that is used, which itself is softer.

First, prepare Cuban coffee: beat sugar with a teaspoon of coffee to a smooth liquid paste. Add the rest of the espresso and stir until the crema rises to the top. Combine Cuban coffee, rum and liqueurs in a shaker with ice cubes, shake well to cool. Strain and serve in a chilled glass with a sprig of mint.

You may burn the rum in various recipes, but don't heat it in the Turk while you brew the coffee. The vapors will quickly dissipate, the taste and aroma will become flat and not so interesting. In the end, it just doesn't make sense.

Classic recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp. ground coffee beans;
  • 100 ml water;
  • 1 tsp. sugar (the spoon should be full and heaped);
  • 10 ml rum.

How to cook:

  1. Pour coffee powder and granulated sugar into the cezve and stir.
  2. Pour in half a glass of cold water. Heat over medium heat.
  3. Remove from heat at the first sign of boiling (liquid level rising).
  4. Wait a couple of minutes for the sediment to settle. Pour into cups. This must be done carefully to prevent the grounds that have settled to the bottom from getting in, or strain the liquid.

Light the rum in a small cup or glass and immediately quickly add it to the coffee. Serve immediately while the drink is hot.

Which rum is better to choose for coffee – white or black?

It's hard to say which is better because people have different preferences. Any rum is good as an additive to coffee drinks, they just have different flavors and aromas, so choose what you like.

  • Light, white, silver rum. Its taste is very soft and slightly sweet, definitely not cloying or too pronounced. For example, white Bacardi is most often used in cocktails like the Mojito, but you can add it to your Americano so as not to overwhelm the taste of good coffee.
  • Golden, amber rum. It is aged in wooden barrels for a period of time, which gives it its signature color and sweeter, richer taste. A good, versatile, balanced option.
  • Dark, red, black rum. It has the longest aging in wooden barrels, which gives it a dark color and a deep, smoky-sweet flavor. It goes well with milk and coffee drinks, giving them depth and versatility.
  • Spiced rum. Most often it is made on the basis of dark or golden, with the addition of spices - anise, cardamom, cinnamon, caramel colors are also introduced to give the characteristic sweet taste of spices. Very bright aroma and interesting taste.

You can confidently take white Bacardi Superior or dark Bacardi Select, as well as any other brands - you definitely won’t ruin your coffee with them.
