In the article you can read how to drink Baileys correctly, and you can also learn how to make cocktails that will pleasantly surprise you and your guests with magnificent shades of taste.
First released in 1974, Baileys not only became the founder of a whole line of cream liqueurs, but is still the leader among the mentioned drinks. It stands out for its pleasant creamy taste and vanilla aroma.
Despite the fact that giving alcoholic drinks to women is considered bad manners, Irish liqueur Baileys can be called an exception to the rule, because its sweet taste and unique combination of whiskey and cream make this liqueur perceived as a dessert that makes the heart beat faster and gives a blush to the cheeks.
Interesting fact: Despite the use of the name Andrew Bailey as the inventor of the drink, there was no such person. This was a marketing ploy to create a legend for Irish liquor. In fact, the drink is named after Bailey's Bar, where the real creator, David Dand, spent a lot of time.

What is delicious to drink Baileys liqueur with, what is it diluted with?
It's rare that anyone can resist the sweet, creamy aroma of Baileys liqueur. It is filled with notes of vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Baileys is an excellent way out of the situation, even when women are not accustomed to drinking alcoholic beverages or do not like the tart taste of stronger drinks. Liqueur can easily be compared to a dessert, because it has a delicate taste and is very easy to drink, and can also be easily combined with sweets.
INTERESTING: This liqueur is the most popular in the world; it was produced in the 70s of the last century.
Essentially, Baileys (or Baileys) is a cream liqueur based on real Irish whiskey. At the moment, there are several varieties of liqueur, which can be distinguished by the characteristic sticker on the bottle (red, green, brown). There is pure cream liqueur, there is coffee, chocolate, mint and others.
IMPORTANT: Baileys is a fairly strong liqueur, containing approximately 17% alcohol. The taste of the liqueur is bitter and at the same time sugary sweet due to the whiskey content.
Baileys liqueur is a digestif and is usually served as a dessert after dinner (after the entire meal). This drink is often combined with dessert: tiramisu, ice cream, chocolate. The liqueur should be served in a special container - this is a small triangular glass on a thin stem with a volume of 20-25 ml (no more). Baileys is usually served only “clean”, without ice or syrups.
INTERESTING: In some recipes, Baileys coffee is added instead of cream. Please note that liqueur is sweet and therefore do not add additional sugar to coffee.
Some people like to serve the drink differently - in a small glass with crushed or solid ice. The drink can be decorated by sprinkling it with cocoa. The liqueur goes well with a light buffet, sweet table, fruit salads, ice cream, chocolate, and cakes. Baileys can be diluted with other liqueurs, milk, cream, coffee, whiskey, vodka, cognac.
Baileys is often included in alcoholic cocktails, but in no case should it be mixed with carbonated drinks, juices and citrus fruits so that the cream in its composition does not curdle. The most popular cocktail names are “B-52”, “Brain Tumor”, “Baileys Smoothie” or “Russian Flag”.

Rules of use
Baileys has a specific composition and a very original taste, so when consuming it you should adhere to several rules. How to drink this liqueur correctly? Here are the main recommendations:
- Temperature. Baileys is not cooled before serving - it should be at room temperature (up to 20°C). Exposure to cold or heat of the drink will spoil the taste of the drink. In order to lower its temperature, you can add a few ice cubes to the glass.
- Dishes. Pure Baileys is usually served in small liqueur glasses - 25-30 grams. If you prefer to mix this drink with coffee or add ice to it, then it makes sense to choose larger glasses.
- Submission time . Baileys, like most liqueurs, is served after meals along with desserts. Since its unusual taste only pairs with sweet snacks, it is not practical to use it as a main drink during a meal.
- Compatibility with other drinks . Many people wonder: how to dilute Baileys so as not to spoil it, but to make it less cloying? This liqueur is often added to coffee instead of cream and sugar - it gives the drink a light, refined aroma. This liqueur can also be mixed with vodka or gin - strong alcoholic drinks without a distinct taste. This combination is usually preferred by men: it allows them to make the taste of Baileys less cloying and raise the degree of the drink.
Coffee with Baileys liqueur: recipe
It's no surprise that Baileys cream liqueur complements hot coffee perfectly. The alcoholic drink is quite sweet and it is better not to add additional sugar to coffee. The pleasant fat content of the cream goes well with the bitterness of the coffee, and the astringency of the whiskey not only adds aroma, but at the same time makes it a “hot” drink.
IMPORTANT: Coffee with Baileys is contraindicated for children under 18 and pregnant women due to the fact that it contains a percentage of alcohol. It is also not advisable to drink this type of coffee for those who drive.
Depending on your preferences, you can make a hot Irish Coffee or a cold Frappuccino . In addition to Baileys, you can also add to hot coffee:
- A pinch of cinnamon
- A pinch of vanilla
- Spoon of white ice cream
- Decorate with cocoa powder
- Cream from a bottle
A cold Frappuccino must be complemented with ice and a straw so that the drink can be drunk like a cocktail. Adjust the amount of Baileys you add to any coffee according to your taste and preferred strength of the finished drink.

How to drink Baileys cream liqueur correctly and what is tasty with it?
As already mentioned, liqueur can act as a separate drink and as an addition to dessert. A sweet “digestif” can ruin your appetite before a meal and is therefore strongly recommended to be consumed only after a full meal. However, in some cases, Baileys is very relevant at sweet and regular buffets.
You can drink Baileys from a special glass in sips or sip it through straws from a small glass. In some cases, when liqueur is part of a shot cocktail (shot from the English word “short”, i.e. “short, small”), it should be drunk in one gulp or quickly, without savoring each layer of the drink.
What kind of liqueur is this and how to drink it correctly?
Baileys is a liqueur made from cream and Irish whiskey. Sugar, vanilla and vegetable oil are also added there. In addition to the original composition, you can find liqueur on sale with the addition of mint and chocolate, coffee and caramel. The strength of the drink is 17%.
- The liqueur is served at room temperature; if the drink needs to be cooled, you can add ice.
- You need to drink it from a special liqueur glass. It differs from the usual cocktail glass, in which “martini” is served, by its shorter stem. You can use larger glasses when adding ice.
- If someone does not like the excessive sweetness of the liqueur, the drink can be mixed with stronger alcohol (vodka, whiskey), or added to black coffee instead of cream. There is no need to add sugar - the liqueur is already sweet.
- Some people like to add chocolate chips, cocoa or a piece of berry, such as strawberry, to their glass of Baileys.
- Mixing it with carbonated drinks or juices is not recommended, because the gas and acid contained in juices may cause the cream to curdle.
- Like any other liqueur, Baileys is usually served after the main course, with dessert, such as cake or pastries. Outside the feast, you can take fresh fruits or berries with it.
What glasses are needed for Baileys liqueur?
There are three options for glasses for drinking Baileys:
- An elongated miniature triangular glass on a thin stem . This is a special glassware for drinking liqueurs. You should drink from a Baileys glass slowly, tasting and savoring every small sip.
- Regular tall glass . It is suitable for those drinks that are combined, for example, if several types of liqueur are mixed at the same time: cream, chocolate, coffee or mint. In a glass you can beautifully observe the clear edges of each layer of liqueur. Liquor should be drunk from a glass in one gulp or through a small straw quickly, but enjoying each layer.
- A small wide glass. In such a container, Baileys is usually served with ice and a thin medium-length straw. The drink should be drunk slowly. As a rule, such a drink can be decorated with cocoa, ground cinnamon or a cinnamon tube, or a vanilla sprig.
Cream liqueur in a glass
Description of liqueur
The history of the creation of Baileys Irish Cream began quite banally. A company of young guys led by David Dand dreamed of creating a completely new, unlike anything else, liqueur that would absorb all the traditions of old Ireland, captivate contemporaries with its excellent taste and would be inscribed in golden letters in the world chronicle of the best drinks.
The idea of mixing the purest whiskey and the finest cream was not new, but no one had yet succeeded in achieving a uniform structure and preventing separation. The very first cream liqueur was made by five enthusiasts not using high-quality equipment, but using one single food processor. The result exceeded all expectations. It was incredibly delicious. But the path to success was not lightning fast. Another three years passed before the recipe was perfected and the coveted bottles appeared on store shelves.
Over time, the company’s range has expanded, and today we can enjoy various variations of the legendary cocktail. But each of them contains the required ingredients:
- whiskey;
- cream;
- sugar;
- vanilla;
- cocoa.
The strength of the drink is only 17%. A pronounced creamy taste and thick, creamy structure are achieved by adding a huge amount of milk cream. In the original recipe, the proportions of alcohol and dairy product are almost equal.
BAILEYS ORIGINAL IRISH CREAM
The best triple-distilled Irish whiskey from the famous OLD BUSHMILLS distillery perfectly complements and emphasizes the soft taste of milk cream, cocoa and heavenly vanilla. Until now, no one has been able to unravel the mystery of the secret recipe of the original BAILEYS. However, this may be the most widespread myth, and the secret hidden behind seven seals has long been unraveled. But other manufacturers are prevented from establishing the production of similar liqueurs by the patent umbrella, opened in advance by David Dehn.
BAILEYS ORANGE TRUFFLE
A unique mixture of Irish whiskey and delicate cream, combined with the rich taste of orange and truffle - a seductive flavor quartet that you can’t help but fall in love with. This is an ideal drink for romantic dates and friendly gatherings with old friends. It can be drunk as a stand-alone drink and used as an ingredient for exotic cocktails.
BAILEYS WITH A HINT OF COFFEE FLAVOR
The only thing better than original Baileys is coffee Baileys. The mesmerizing aroma of roasted coffee, intertwined with the smell of cocoa beans and vanilla, does not interrupt the creamy taste at all. On the contrary, it only emphasizes the amazing bouquet of the classic Irish liqueur. After ten years of experimentation, the manufacturers managed to combine two completely dissimilar scents into a single whole.
BAILEYS CHOCOLATE LUXE
The duo of decadent Belgian chocolate and original Baileys is luxurious and carefree in every sip. The unique taste of melted chocolate in a cold and at the same time warming drink is like two diametrically opposed elements.

Maria, 33 years old
. My work colleagues gave me a bottle of Belis for some holiday, saying that it would allow me, a coffee lover, to look at my favorite drink from a different perspective. Since I am indifferent to alcohol, the liqueur stood quietly in the cupboard for about a year. A dark glass bottle can also be stored at room temperature if the house is not very hot, and I was not worried about the drink. One evening, when I ran out of coffee creamer at home, I remembered the gift and opened the bottle. At first I was struck by a pleasant creamy aroma. Having added 30 grams of Baileys to black coffee and taken a sip, I realized that it was in vain that I had not appreciated my colleagues’ idea earlier. This is a delicious combination! Now I periodically treat myself to coffee with Baileys and really appreciate these warm moments.

. If in my youth everyone dreamed of Amaretto and believed that this was the pinnacle of liqueur production, now many have tried Baileys. And I, too, am among the fans of this drink. I don’t know what others drink it with, but I prefer to drink this liqueur with ice - this way it loses its cloying quality and acquires a certain velvety quality. Fragrant, tart, creamy...Everything about it is perfect. By the way, you can dilute it with mineral water, but only without gas, otherwise the cream will curdle (I had a sad experience).
Sergey, 29 years old
. I prefer Baileys liqueur in various cocktails - I really like B-52 and Brain Explosion. In them, this drink is not so sweet, but at the same time its original taste is immediately felt. My wife doesn’t like the smell and taste of alcohol, but even she liked Baileys. True, unlike me, she doesn’t mix it with anything, she drinks it pure in small sips with a snack or a banana. She just loves sweets, so Baileys liqueur doesn’t seem cloying to her - she says it’s just right. You don’t immediately notice how many degrees there are in it - the liqueur is drunk easily, with pleasure, spreading a pleasant warmth throughout the body... Now my wife and I agree: it’s impossible not to fall in love with this taste!

Cocktails with Baileys
Many cocktails are prepared based on Baileys, because the aroma of this liqueur can change and improve any familiar combination of tastes. You will find the most popular and original mix recipes below:
- «B-52»
This is perhaps the most popular Baileys cocktail, named after the American Boeing B-52 bomber. This recipe was first invented and tested in 1955 in Malibu bars. Over time, it won the hearts of many connoisseurs of alcoholic cocktails around the world. It contains only three ingredients, taken in equal proportions (20 grams each). First, you need to pour coffee liqueur into the shot glass. Then slowly add Baileys along the blade of a knife, and then - in the same way - orange liqueur. Before drinking, the cocktail can be set on fire or simply drunk in one gulp.
- "Hiroshima"
This cocktail was created by Soviet bartenders in response to the American B-52. In appearance, it resembles a nuclear mushroom after the explosion of bombs in the sky over Hiroshima. The bright, strong taste of the drink also contributes to this association. To prepare the cocktail you will need 10 ml of Baileys, 20 ml of absinthe, 20 ml of sambuca and 5 ml of grenadine. The mix is formed in layers from bottom to top: sambuca, Baileys, absinthe, grenadine. After laying out the layers, an interesting sediment will appear at the bottom of the stack, which prompted the bartenders to name the cocktail “Hiroshima”. The drink looks especially bright if it is set on fire before drinking.
- «Burning Henry»
They say that this cocktail was invented by a certain Henry Smith in order to win the heart of the girl he liked. Both the way to impress the lady of your heart and the cocktail recipe are simple and original at the same time. To prepare the drink, layer 15 ml of alcoholic beverages: Amaretto liqueur, then Baileys, and whiskey on top. Light the resulting mix and quickly drink through the straw before it melts like Henry's heart in love.
- «Perfect continuus»
This strawberry-flavored dessert cocktail is made with seven ingredients. You will need 40 ml of Baileys and cream, 30 ml of white rum, 20 ml of caramel and strawberry syrups, 3 strawberries and 160 grams of crushed ice. All ingredients must be mixed in a blender and poured into a tall glass (highball). Usually the cocktail is served with a glass garnished with strawberries.
- «Irish Martini»
Chocolate and coffee lovers will love this cocktail. To prepare it you will need Baileys (50 ml), cubed ice (50 grams), whiskey (20 ml), cold coffee (10 ml) and 5 grams of chocolate chips. Pour into a glass and mix liqueur, whiskey and coffee, add ice and sprinkle the drink with good chocolate shavings.
- «Brain explosion»
A cocktail that is equally liked by both sexes, as it is moderately sweet and moderately strong. It contains four ingredients. To prepare it you will need 10 ml of Baileys, 20 ml of white vermouth, 5 ml of grenadine and 15 ml of vodka. The recipe is simple: first pour vermouth into the glass, then vodka, then grenadine and Baileys. There is no need to stir the contents. The cocktail is drunk in one gulp and leaves a long, bright aftertaste.

Only the Irish could come up with such a magical drink. The combination of soft triple distilled whiskey with animal cream, vanilla, caramel, coffee and chocolate puts the weaker half of humanity into a state of ecstasy. However, I wouldn’t mind treating myself to a glass of aromatic Baileys and savoring it in a quiet and cozy atmosphere. And I’m not ashamed to admit it - the Irish are amateurs in many ways, but they know about alcohol (that’s what my beloved Jameson is worth). But this is all lyrics, let's move directly to practice.

Chocolate Baileys
If you want to reproduce chocolate-flavored Baileys at home, be prepared for the fact that you cannot do without the essence. Any chocolate bar melted in a water bath and then introduced into a drink will take on a solid structure and settle to the bottom in a thick layer as soon as the popular cream liqueur cools to room temperature.
You can experiment with a wide variety of chocolates countless times, but the effect will always be the same. We can only guess how the producers of the original liqueur, who claim to use only natural products, will overcome this situation. But in our kitchen, we have every right to resort to a little trick and add a few drops of coffee essence at the very final stage of preparation.
To prepare chocolate liqueur, you can use any recipe given above.
