History and manufacturer of the Gevalia brand
But Gevalia is a Swedish brand, one of the old Scandinavian coffee producers. The first mention dates back to 1853: founding father Victor Theodor Engvall personally purchased coffee beans, roasted them and sold them in branded packaging in the small port city of Gävle, the Latin spelling of which became the name of the coffee company.
Gevalia is high-quality Scandinavian coffee
Suppliers with the highest quality raw materials were selected. Thanks to careful selection of raw materials and high-quality processing, the Gevalia brand quickly became popular and gradually conquered the coffee market of the Baltic countries.
Having achieved success, the owners of the enterprise continued to develop their business: a laboratory research center was created, methods of storing and processing coffee were developed, and innovations were used in packaging and transportation. Gevalia received the right to be the official supplier of coffee products in the Royal Court of Sweden and was able to take leadership in Northern Europe.
In 1971, the Gevalia brand was sold to General Foods, which allowed the brand to expand into North America. If in the Baltic countries the most popular is the affordable instant coffee Gevalia, then in the USA Gevalia is associated with premium coffee varieties. In addition to commercial achievements, the company guarantees customers that its products are environmentally friendly and do not harm the environment during production, which is confirmed by the Rainforest Alliance environmental certificate.
The drink has gained popularity due to its unsurpassed taste and aroma.
Currently, more than 40 varieties of coffee and tea are offered under the Gevalia brand; Gevalia production facilities are located in several countries. Due to different positioning in different markets, the manufacturer markets its products differently: in North America, Craft Foods' premium Gevalia coffees are sold in yellow packages as beans, ground and capsules; in Europe - mainly instant coffee in red packages, produced by Jacobs Douwe Egberts.
History of coffee
The history of the brand has crossed the 160-year mark. It was in those distant 60s of the 19th century that a tiny family enterprise arose in a small Swiss town. Its head independently selected and purchased coffee beans from direct manufacturers and sold them in packaging with his own branded logo. Careful selection of raw materials and high-quality packaging have made Gevalia coffee a leader in the Scandinavian market.
Gradually, the company began to promote its products on the world market. Today Gevalia is known mainly as a manufacturer of instant and freeze-dried coffee, although its range includes about 40 products for home and professional use. Gevalia coffee is considered a brand from Finland, since the large international company Kraft Foods is promoting the products.
One of the pages of history
The brand's products will appeal to those who love the soft, delicate taste of coffee with a pronounced aroma. The coffee blends are based on beans from Guatemala, Kenya and Costa Rica, which means that the usual strength that is typical of Brazilian coffee will not be here. The peculiarity of freeze-dried drinks is the lack of sourness in the taste and the aroma is identical to that obtained by brewing ground coffee in a Turk. This is a unique distinctive feature achieved by special techniques and technologies.
The bulk of the brand's products are sold on the markets of Sweden, Denmark and the Baltic countries. Almost half goes to the United States, where Gevalia is considered a premium product.
A great achievement of the company's management is the receipt of an environmental certificate from the Rainforest Alliance, which guarantees customers that the product they purchase is environmentally friendly and does not cause any damage to the environment during its production. This is the brand’s highest award for its meticulous attitude to quality and impeccable reputation.
What is this coffee made from?
The raw materials are predominantly Arabica beans from Kenya, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Colombia. Green coffee beans purchased in these regions are roasted on our own equipment using a certain technology in order to preserve the brand’s characteristic features: moderate strength, mild taste without sourness, rich aroma and high quality.
For stronger varieties, raw materials are used from Brazil; for coffee with a bright fruity taste, slowly ripening beans are selected from Peru; for certain types of coffee, beans are supplied from India, Vietnam, Ethiopia and other countries.
How new coffee is produced
The production processes of roasting beans and blending, which have been improved over decades, allow Gevalia technologists to produce different types of coffee from the same beans: moderate and strong, releasing different aromas, with or without bitterness.
For example, when producing ground coffee, low-temperature grinding is used to preserve aromatic components; such coffee has maximum aroma and taste. And for the production of instant coffee, modern methods are used that are safe for humans and the environment - and at the same time, Gevalia instant coffee has the taste and aroma of ground coffee, a tonic effect, but does not worsen well-being, does not cause dizziness, as happens with cheap brands of instant coffee.
